Capital City Race

ABOUT CCR

THE CAPITAL
IS RUNNING.

Capital City Race is Nigeria’s premier urban 10km road race, celebrating the energy, ambition and pride of the nation’s capital cities.

ORIGIN STORY

Lagos has always been a city in motion.

Over the past fifteen years, something shifted quietly in its streets. Gyms multiplied. Running clubs formed at dawn in Ikoyi, Ikorodu and Ikeja. A fitness culture was taking root in a city known for its hustle — and it was growing fast. But one thing was missing.

Dapo Ajayi saw it clearly. A sports and marketing consultant born and raised in Lagos, he had watched the running culture boom for years and noticed that the middle-distance races available to Nigerian runners rarely matched what they deserved. He asked a simple question: why shouldn’t Lagos have a world-class 10km road race? Capital City Race was his answer.

The first edition launched in 2024, fully timed and professionally organised through the streets of Ikeja. 1,048 runners crossed the start line — many had never run 10km before, and many crossed the finish line in tears. The second edition, in 2025, grew to 1,467 registrations. In 2026, the third edition targets 3,000 runners on the start line — and the ambition doesn’t stop there.
